Will Advanced Inventory Count aggregate multiple scans of the same item and lot in the same bin?

Yes. Advanced Inventory Count totals the counts for the same item automatically, whether that item was counted in several places, on different count sheets, or scanned box by box in one bin. You do not have to manually add up the pieces before posting.

How aggregation works

The module sums all counted quantities for a given item, variant, location, and bin combination, and it carries that total through to the journals. If you count the same item in three different spots, perhaps on three different sheets, the reconciliation adds them together so the adjustment reflects the full counted quantity rather than any single line. This is the same logic that lets a retail location count one item at the front counter, the back room, and an impulse display and still arrive at one correct total.

Scanner options for repeated scans

On the handheld you have two settings for how repeated scans behave. The module can add a new line each time you scan the item, so every scan is recorded individually, and the totals are summed when you reconcile and move to the journals. Alternatively, it can update the existing count line for that item, accumulating the quantity on a single line. Both approaches reach the same total. Recording each scan separately can be helpful when you want a visible trail of each box scanned, while updating a single line keeps the sheet compact.

Counting by shelf number without bins

If you do not use bins, you can still keep location detail by counting against shelf numbers. Scanning a shelf number barcode lets you record that you counted an item at a specific shelf, count the same item at another shelf, and have the module keep those segregated for reconciliation while still summing the overall total. That gives you the where as well as the how many, and it supports recounts by shelf, all without enabling bins.

Related Tools

Advanced Inventory Count performs the aggregation across sheets, bins, and shelf numbers and totals the quantity when the count moves to the journals. Warehouse Insight and WMS Express provide the handheld scanning and the setting that chooses between adding a new line per scan or updating one line. This is a completely free app from Insight Works for Business Central.

Conclusion

Multiple scans and multiple counts of the same item are aggregated automatically, so the posted adjustment reflects the complete counted quantity. Choose whether the scanner records each scan as its own line or updates a single line, and use shelf numbers to retain location detail when you are not using bins.
