Which Business Central warehouse configurations does Warehouse Insight support?

Many Business Central customers run more than one kind of location. A distribution center might use advanced warehousing with directed put-away and pick, while a retail store down the street does not even have bins enabled. A mobile warehouse solution has to work for both without forcing one setup onto every site.

Every location configuration is supported

Warehouse Insight for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central works with any location configuration Business Central supports. You do not need to change how a location is set up in Business Central to use Warehouse Insight there. The handheld applications follow the warehouse setup of the location the device is working in.

Advanced warehousing

At an advanced warehouse location using directed put-away and pick, Warehouse Insight supports the full set of warehouse documents on the handheld: warehouse receipts, put-aways, warehouse picks, movements, and warehouse shipments. Workers are guided bin by bin, and every scan is validated against Business Central in real time.

Simpler locations

At a location without bins, such as a retail store, Warehouse Insight runs as a lighter version of the same solution. Store staff can use the device for price and item inquiries, receiving transfer orders, shipping goods out, and counting inventory. For retail inventory counts, Advanced Inventory Count is especially well suited, because counting accurately in a store environment is difficult without a structured process.

Locations in between, such as those using bins with inventory picks and put-aways, are supported as well.

Device configurations by location

Each device is tied to a device configuration in Business Central, and you can set up any device to use any configuration. That lets you create configurations for each location type, with its own menus, applications, and screen layouts, and assign devices accordingly. A device at the distribution center shows the full set of warehouse applications. A device at the store might show only inquiry, receiving, and counting. You can hide the icons workers do not need so the main screen shows only the work they actually do.

Why this matters

Supporting every configuration means you can roll out Warehouse Insight across the business in stages, starting where the need is greatest, without redesigning your Business Central locations first. It also means you maintain one mobile solution instead of separate tools for warehouse and retail operations.

Bottom line

Warehouse Insight supports any warehouse configuration Business Central supports, from advanced directed put-away and pick to simple locations without bins. Device configurations let you tailor the handheld experience to each location while running a single solution across the business.
