Manufacturers still running Dynamics NAV often want the same visual scheduling that Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central users get from Graphical Scheduler. It is a reasonable ask, but Graphical Scheduler only works with Business Central. It does not work with NAV.
The NAV option: Shop Floor Insight
Shop Floor Insight does work with NAV, and it includes its own graphical scheduler. Using it requires purchasing Shop Floor Insight for NAV, since the scheduler is part of that product rather than a separate tool.
What the Shop Floor Insight scheduler covers
The Shop Floor Insight scheduler in NAV is for production orders only. It handles released production orders, and it can also show firm planned and planned production orders. It does not schedule other kinds of documents.
It is also less capable than Graphical Scheduler. If you need a manual graphical scheduler in NAV, have a look at Shop Floor Insight for NAV to see whether it meets your requirements.
What Graphical Scheduler adds in Business Central
In Business Central, Graphical Scheduler goes well beyond production orders. It installs with production views by default, and you can set up views for almost anything: assembly, project-type jobs, quality inspection assignments, warehouse shipments, and pick assignments. You could also set up a chart showing sales orders, when they are supposed to ship, and who is assigned to them. For picks, you can assign specific picks to specific people, which helps with wave picking.
You can create your own views with any table, including custom tables, then visualize and drag and drop that data. Drag and drop uses standard Business Central scheduling logic, so moving an operation is the same as changing its starting or ending time on the production order.
Planning a move to Business Central
For NAV customers, the difference in scheduling tools is one more consideration when planning a move to Business Central. Your Business Central partner can walk through what scheduling would look like after the move and what Shop Floor Insight for NAV can do in the meantime.
