Insight Works Points to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central’s 2026 Release Wave as Validation for Automated Maintenance Scheduling

August 6, 2026

Insight Works built Maintenance Manager, a Business Central app, around automated maintenance intervals that update directly from production data instead of relying on someone logging a meter reading or service date.

Automating maintenance scheduling with production data helps technicians stay ahead of equipment service needs without manual tracking.

As Microsoft continues to invest in automation across Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central through its 2026 release wave, Insight Works is highlighting Maintenance Manager. This app has applied the same principle to equipment maintenance since its release.

Microsoft’s current release wave for Business Central continues to emphasize reducing manual work across finance, supply chain, and manufacturing processes by automating processes that previously relied on employees entering data by hand. Maintenance Manager addresses a version of that problem that predates any recent AI initiative: maintenance schedules that depend on someone remembering to record a meter reading, a cycle count, or a service date.

“Microsoft’s direction with Business Central keeps validating an approach we built Maintenance Manager around from the start,” said Brian Neufeld, Director of Marketing at Insight Works. “Manual tracking is the weak point in most maintenance programs, not the maintenance work itself. When the system already has the production data, there’s no reason a maintenance schedule should depend on someone writing a number down.”

Maintenance Manager lets organizations assign maintenance tasks with intervals based on distance, runtime, output count, or duration. For equipment tied to a work center or machine center, runtime and output count intervals update automatically as production orders are posted, without manual entry. When maintenance is due, it can be scheduled individually or across a date range. Because a maintenance order is built as a production order, it also blocks scheduling capacity on the affected equipment, so tools like the Graphical Scheduler app and MxAPS account for it alongside standard production.

Organizations that track equipment as inventory can also ship, receive, and move it using Business Central’s standard warehouse functions, addressing a common limitation in which an asset’s location can be updated only manually on its fixed asset record. Because Maintenance Manager is built on Business Central’s existing production order structure, it works alongside other Business Central functionality and third-party apps already compatible with production orders, without requiring a separate system or custom integration.

The Maintenance Manager requires a Business Central Premium license and is available for installation via the Microsoft Marketplace. Organizations that work with a Microsoft partner can also reach out directly for more information or visit MaintenanceForDynamics.com.
