Voice guidance only speeds up picking if the worker understands the instruction. In multilingual warehouses, that means the device has to speak the worker’s language, not just the language the system was configured in. Warehouse Insight for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central handles this through its built-in translation capability.
How voice guidance uses translations
Voice guidance lets the handheld device speak to workers at almost any point where they interact with the system, such as telling them which bin to go to and what to pick. The voice picking add-on, available at no cost from the Add-On Catalog, provides a standard voice picking setup. You or your Business Central partner can also add voice guidance to other applications and change what the device says.
The voice picking add-on does not install its own translations. Instead, it uses the standard translation feature in Warehouse Insight. In the translations area, you create codes and assign the text for each language. In the voice guidance setup, you reference the translation code instead of typing fixed text. The device then speaks the message in the language it is configured to use.
That means one voice picking configuration can serve an English-speaking worker and a Spanish-speaking worker on the same shift, with each device speaking its own language.
What comes in the standard install
The standard Warehouse Insight install includes translations for a range of languages. These translations are machine generated, so treat them as a starting point rather than a finished product. If your team works in Spanish as spoken in Mexico, Canadian French, or another regional variant, have a fluent speaker review the translations used in your workflows and adjust the wording to match how your workers actually talk. Because the translations are codes you control, you can edit them directly without any development work.
Hardware for voice guidance
Voice guidance does not require special hardware. The device can speak through its own speaker or through a simple Bluetooth headset. For hands-free picking, many operations pair voice guidance with wearables, such as a glove scanner and a wrist-mounted device. The worker hears the bin location, scans the bin to confirm it, hears what to pick, and scans the item. That scan provides physical verification that the correct product was picked, which voice-only systems do not offer.
If a worker misses an instruction, they can repeat it from a menu item or by scanning a barcode set up to repeat the last message.
Practical steps
Install the voice picking add-on from the Add-On Catalog.
Review the machine-generated translations for each language your team uses.
Replace fixed text in your voice guidance with translation codes.
Set each device to the language of the worker who uses it.
Bottom line
Warehouse Insight voice guidance can speak languages other than English, such as Spanish or French, by using translation codes you manage in Business Central. Start with the included translations, have a fluent speaker refine them, and each device will guide its worker in the right language.
