Adjust Inventory Quantity for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central
When a worker finds a discrepancy on the warehouse floor, the traditional resolution requires walking back to a desktop, opening Business Central, navigating to the item journal, entering the adjustment, and posting. Warehouse Insight’s Inventory Quantity Adjustment add-on eliminates every step after the worker finds the problem. Workers open Item Inquiry on their device, select the item, and post a positive or negative adjustment directly to the Business Central item journal — without leaving the floor.

Have a Question about Adjusting Inventory Quantity?
Key Capabilities
Positive and negative adjustments from the device. Workers select the item in Item Inquiry, tap the menu, and choose Adjust Inventory. The device presents two options: Positive to increase inventory, and Negative to decrease it. Workers enter the quantity and confirm. Business Central posts the item journal entry immediately. The item ledger entries page in Business Central reflects the adjustment in real time.
Integrated into Item Inquiry. The Adjust Inventory option surfaces directly within the Item Inquiry application workers already use to locate items, check bin contents, and review recent transactions. Workers do not open a separate application or navigate to a different menu. The adjustment is one additional step from the inquiry screen they are already using.
Bin prompt for bin-enabled locations. For locations configured with bin tracking in Business Central, the device prompts the worker to scan or select a bin during the adjustment workflow. The adjustment records against the correct bin, keeping bin-level inventory accurate in Business Central.
Item journal batch configuration. Administrators configure the item journal batch, Inventory Quantity Adjustment, on the Device Configuration page in Business Central. Each device configuration points to a specific batch. Workers never interact with the journal batch selection — the adjustment posts to the correct batch automatically based on the device configuration.
Add-On Catalog installation. Inventory Quantity Adjustment installs from the Warehouse Insight Add-On Catalog in Business Central. Installation deploys the application, override, device menu option, and supporting configuration data automatically. No manual application import or separate deployment step is required.
How Inventory Quantity Adjustment Works in Warehouse Insight
Workers access the adjustment from the Item Inquiry application. After opening Item Inquiry and selecting the item they need to adjust, they press the menu icon and select Adjust Inventory. The device displays two buttons: Positive and Negative. The worker selects the appropriate adjustment direction, enters the quantity, and confirms. For locations using bin tracking, the device then prompts the worker to scan or select the bin the adjustment applies to. Business Central creates and posts the item journal entry immediately, and the worker can verify the result on the Item Ledger Entries page.
The item journal batch used for adjustments is configured on the Device Configuration page in Business Central before workers use the feature. Each device configuration points to a single batch. Administrators set this up once during installation. Workers never select or interact with the journal batch directly.
Inventory Quantity Adjustment installs from the Warehouse Insight Add-On Catalog. Selecting Install from the catalog deploys the extension, the application override for Item Inquiry, the Adjust Inventory menu option, and all required supporting data. Reloading the app configuration on the device makes the new menu option available immediately.
Who Uses Inventory Quantity Adjustment
Warehouse workers and receiving clerks use Inventory Quantity Adjustment to correct discrepancies at the point of discovery, without having to return to a desktop. A worker who counts a bin and finds more or fewer items than Business Central shows can post the correction immediately from their handheld. Supervisors and inventory managers use it for ad-hoc corrections between scheduled cycle counts. Warehouse administrators configure the journal batch and device permissions in Business Central before deploying the feature to the floor.
Note: Inventory Quantity Adjustment is not available for locations configured with Directed Pick and Put-Away in Business Central. Operations using directed warehousing configurations should use the standard Warehouse Insight counting workflows to manage inventory discrepancies.
