It’s a comprehensive guide for users of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central interested in improving their purchase planning and inventory management practices.

In today’s fast-paced business world, efficient purchase planning and inventory management are paramount. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central offers a robust solution with its Planning Worksheet and Requisition Worksheet functionalities. These tools are designed to streamline the purchase planning process and help keep inventory in check.

The Planning Worksheet is the central hub for Material Requirements Planning (MRP). It allows to manage purchase planning, production scheduling, and more. There are three primary options when using the Planning Worksheet: “Get Action Messages,” “Net Change,” and “Regenerative.” These options enable updates in planning based on changes in demand and supply.

A key feature of the Planning Worksheet is the ability to set the “Starting Date” and “Ending Date.” The Starting Date doesn’t impact demand selection but sets the purchase order start date. The Ending Date is crucial as it determines how far into the future the planning extends, so it’s important to choose this date carefully.

Additionally, select the desired forecast and exclude forecast quantities not fulfilled by sales orders. When using the Planning Worksheet, it’s essential to have the “Include Safety Stock” option enabled. This setting ensures the system respects parameters like minimum order quantity, lot size, or order multiples, resulting in more efficient order quantities.

The Requisition Worksheet, on the other hand, is typically used for purchasing specific items like drop shipments and special orders. While it provides specific functions, most of these functions can also be executed within the Planning Worksheet.

These tools simplify and optimize the purchase planning process by maintaining adequate inventory levels, reducing overstock, and ensuring timely fulfillment of customer demands. With Business Central and Insight Works’ apps powerful capabilities, businesses can streamline their procurement operations and stay ahead in today’s competitive market
