A shipment that crosses a border, including one moving from Canada into the United States, is an international shipment and sits outside what the app covers.
How the Boundary Is Determined
The comparison is between the country of the location you ship from and the country in the ship-to address. A Canadian company shipping from Ontario to British Columbia is shipping domestically. A company in Denmark shipping within Denmark is shipping domestically. That same Canadian company shipping to Buffalo is shipping internationally, even though the distance is shorter.
Carrier account availability is a separate question from the domestic boundary, and the two get confused often. Built-in discounted carrier accounts are concentrated in North America, so a business operating elsewhere generally brings its own negotiated carrier account into the app. The shipment is still domestic in either case. What changes is where the rates come from.
Why the Boundary Exists
An international parcel needs paperwork a domestic parcel does not: a customs declaration, a commercial invoice, harmonized tariff codes, and a decision about who pays duties and taxes. Native Business Central does not produce those documents, and neither does Order Ship Express. Rather than generate an incomplete international label, the app stays inside the case it can complete correctly. A business that ignores this and tries to force an international shipment through a domestic-only workflow usually discovers the gap at the border, not at the packing station.
The practical consequence is worth stating plainly. If international shipments are occasional and low volume, staff will keep visiting the carrier website for those orders. If international shipments are a regular part of the business, that manual step becomes the bottleneck the software was supposed to remove.
When to Move Beyond Domestic Parcel
