The Skorpio X40 is Datalogic’s compact, key-based mobile computer, well suited to the receiving, putaway, picking, and shipping workflows that Warehouse Insight and WMS Express are built to run inside Business Central. Its lighter, more compact design compared to the Falcon X60 makes it a good fit for operations where all-shift comfort matters as much as durability, such as retail back rooms, light manufacturing floors, and smaller distribution operations.
The Skorpio X40 runs on the Qualcomm Dragonwing 4490 octa-core processor at 2.4 GHz, with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of flash storage. That’s enough headroom for Warehouse Insight and WMS Express to handle real-time Business Central lookups, barcode-driven transactions, and label printing without lag during a busy shift. It ships on Android 15 with Google Mobile Services and is upgradeable to Android 19, so the hardware stays current as Insight Works releases new app functionality.
Built for daily handling rather than extreme outdoor exposure, the Skorpio X40 is IP65/67 sealed against dust and water, and MIL-STD 810H drop tested to 2.4 meters onto concrete at ambient temperature (1.8 meters across its full operating range of -20°C to 50°C). The 4-inch WVGA display uses Corning Gorilla Glass Victus at 450 nits, keeping Warehouse Insight pick screens and confirmation prompts readable across typical indoor lighting conditions.
For scanning, the Skorpio X40 uses Datalogic’s Halogen 2D imager in either Standard or Long Range configuration, both with Green Spot good-read confirmation, so operators get a clear visual cue directly on the label when a scan registers correctly in Warehouse Insight or WMS Express. This is a narrower reading range than the Falcon X60’s XLR option, so the X40 is the better match for close- to mid-range scanning at pick faces and pack stations rather than reading rack labels from a distance.
For teams entering data as well as scanning, the Skorpio X40 offers three keyboard layouts (29-key numeric, 39-key functional numeric, and 48-key alphanumeric), so you can match the device to how your team actually works in Warehouse Insight, whether that’s mostly scan-driven picking or tasks that need more manual entry and notes. The field-detachable handle lets the same unit switch between handheld and pistol grip, useful for standardizing on one SKU across receiving and high-volume picking roles.
The Skorpio X40 uses a 7,000 mAh hot-swap battery, so operators can swap batteries mid-shift without losing their session in Warehouse Insight or WMS Express. It supports both contact and Qi wireless charging, and shares docks and accessories with the Skorpio X5 line, so adding X40 units to an existing fleet doesn’t mean replacing charging infrastructure. Wi-Fi 6/6E and Bluetooth 5.3 keep the device connected to Business Central throughout the facility. Note that the X40 is Wi-Fi only; the X45 variant adds 5G cellular and GPS for operations that need connectivity or location tracking outside Wi-Fi coverage, such as yard or outdoor receiving areas.
