A forklift-mounted tablet, a rugged scanner with a physical keypad, and a large-screen handheld all show the same pick very differently. When every device uses one layout, someone ends up scrolling, tapping, or squinting. Warehouse Insight for Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central lets you configure the handheld experience by application and by device.
Choose a view for each application
Warehouse Insight offers three main ways to present work:
Card View shows one record at a time and works well on larger screens, such as a tablet on a pick cart or a forklift. After a line is completed, the device moves to the next record.
Compact Grid View shows many lines on one screen and suits smaller rugged devices with physical keypads. Workers can choose visible columns, sort by tapping a header, and you can add color rules to highlight lines.
Rich Tile View shows richer information per line, including the item picture and fields such as package or serial number. It uses more space per line, so it suits larger screens.
Each application can use a different view. Picking might use Rich Tile View with item pictures, while receiving uses Compact Grid View. Views can also differ by device, so the same pick looks different on a forklift tablet than on a keypad scanner.
Control the fields and quantities shown
All views are configurable. You choose which fields appear, where they appear, and how quantities display. Warehouse Insight can show only the open quantity left to pick, or show completed out of total. Showing only what remains is generally safer, because it reduces overpicking.
Add fact boxes
Fact boxes display extra context on any screen, on the side or bottom. A fact box can show the item image, pick instructions, a warehouse map, or an external website. The fact boxes add-on in the Add-On Catalog provides standard options to start with.
Reduce screen tapping
Ideally, workers scan and use the keypad without touching the screen. Standard hotkeys cover actions throughout the applications; for example, F4 opens item inquiry. You can also hide main menu icons a device does not need, so a picking-only device shows only the pick icon. For workers who do tap, grid spacing and font size settings make targets easier to hit.
Branding and offline settings
Each device can display its own logo, which helps identify devices in a large fleet. Offline capability is also set per device in Device Setup, including what data is cached and how often.
Bottom line
Warehouse Insight device configuration in Business Central lets you match each screen to the device and the task: Card, Compact Grid, or Rich Tile View per application, the fields and fact boxes workers need, hotkeys, visible icons, spacing, and offline access. Configure for the hardware, and workers spend their time scanning instead of navigating.
